Strive for Five at School!
Apples. Broccoli. Squash. They are just a few of the many fresh and delicious fruits and vegetables grown locally in Nova Scotia.
With the help a guide developed for schools, students and staff will enjoy tasty, healthy menu items, made with such in-season, locally grown produce.
Launched in March 2010, Strive for Five at School! A Guide to Promoting Fruit and Vegetables, takes healthy eating in the school system a step further, focusing on promoting and preparing in-season local fruits and vegetables.
Some of the things found in the guide include:
- A calendar showing which fruits and vegetables are available in Nova Scotia.
- Large Quantity Recipes.
- Facilitators Guide for leading/planning school workshops
Strive for Five at School! was created by a joint committee of the Annapolis Valley Health Promoting Schools Program, the Community Health Boards of the Annapolis Valley, Armstrong Food Service and the departments of Health Promotion and Protection, Education and Agriculture.
